Full Moon Release Schedule Means a Long Wait for Me

Viz has finally done an official press release about the Full Moon o Sagashite DVD.  Each volume will be released quarterly with volume 1 have 4 episodes.  Yep, just 4 episodes.  Since Full Moon is a 52 episode series, that means the last volume will not be released until Summer 2009....that's THREE YEARS I'll have to wait before the whole thing is out, then probably another year or two before a more sensible box set is released (because I'm not buying 13 volumes).  Some folks area already speculating that Viz is setting it up to fail because shojo anime already has a tough time in the market as it is, then to do something like that? Ugh.  Also a little scary to see that their press release does not really give an accurate summary of the story.

Come on Viz...do this right!  People have waited years for this series.  You gave the manga a kick ass release schedule and treatment, why not do its anime the same way?

On the good side, a preview of it in the form of the entire 1st episode will be attached to the June Shojo Beat issue, so we'll get to see if they did it right (and if they subbed the songs or if they are totally screwing it up).

Full Moon o Sagashite No Longer a Dream!

According to a report at AWN, during NATPE Viz has now confirmed the previously leaked announcement that they have the license for Full Moon wo Sagashite!  Woo hoo!  Other titles they announced are Mar, Zoids Genesis, Prince of Tennis, Grandpa Danger and Croket, but Full Moon is the only one of interest to me.  Now here is hoping it gets a Marmalade Boy style release with the first volume coming in June like the sneaked announcement mentioned.  Let's celebrate!

And now all that's left is someone to license the Kamikize Kaito Jeanne anime.  If Full Moon can do it, so can Jeanne!  Please???

Oh, and hope y'all like the slight redesign I did in here to clean up the right side bar some (notice the category list is now in the left menu under Animania), and the RSS feeds are a little easier to find.  Also replaced some icons with smaller nicer ones with possible and added a section of favorite suppliers of anime and manga.

Teases...

RightStuf has now removed the Full Moon listing from their site.  Was it an error or did they just "spill the beans" early?  I'm really hoping its the latter...real Full Moon DVDs would be a great improvement over the fansub ones I have now (though I do hope Viz puts more than 3 episodes per disk, if they really do have it).

OMG OMG OMG, Has Full Moon Finally Been Licensed?

According to the recent additions on anime seller Right Stuf's site, Full Moon volume 1 is set to be released on June 27th from Viz Media.

I can't decide if I can be happy yet. I'm just waiting for someone to say "oh no, we meant some other show and just changed its name to Full Moon, we don't mean that one." Viz having it also gives mixed reaction because I really feel that the songs need English subtitling because the lyrics are often used to express characters feelings. Viz has long been known for never subtitling songs, opening or in show, but maybe they will suprise us.

From the solicitation, with 100 minutes does this mean 4 eps per disk so 13 volumes. This will be a hard call...if they were successfully able to also license all the music (long believed to be the hold up on its coming over), I don't know if I'll be able to resist ordering by volume instead of waiting for a box set. I hate thinking of 13 volumes sitting on my shelf, but I hate thinking of waiting at least what, 3 years, before the potential for a set. Oh the indecision... On the reverse, though, without the music, I can't say that I would get it...its just too integral to the show, so here's hoping they wouldn't solicit it without it.

Interesting, though, that they seemed to have licensed it so quietly...I mean no one heard anything beyond the speculation of whether they'd get the anime to go with the manga.  No official announcement has been made yet.

Either way, waiting for official word and details on the release before I really get happy.
