Volume 4
As the volume opens, Sakuya returns after having been out all night. Aine wonders where he was, but says nothing, thinking to herself that she should be ashamed for doubting him. On the set that day, Sakuya has to film the love seen with Ayako and they heat up the set. Aine gets jealous, but tries to hide it. Sakuya sees right through her, of course, and tells her he was thinking of her the whole time and that later he'd show her just what he was thinking. Later Ayako talks with Aine and tells her that she didn't realize her identity was secret and that she's already leaked it to the press. Such a bitch! The press is waiting for Sakuya after the show, and he tells them that he is in a relationship with Ayako. Furious, Ayako discovers the newspapers have a picture of HER with in a tryst with Sakuya, and that the story of Lucifer's lyricist has been buried. Ayako accuses Sakuya of using her, but he tells he she started it by going after Aine and that if she does it again he will become her worse nightmare. As they head home, Sakuya explains to Aine that he did kiss Ayako once that night, then got her drunk and left. They head to dinner, but when they get back to Sakuya's place they find Ayako inside having slashed her wrists. Aine worries over Ayako, and when she comes to at the hospital, Ayako tells Aine she doesn't want to live because Sakuya hates her. Got she's good...and Aine is so naive. Sakuya realizes it for the stunt it was and has the story suppressed. Ayako says she loves him and wanted to prove how much...Sakuya gets a little evil and says if she decides to kill herself again, call him so he can help her get it right.
Aine is very upset that Sakuya is always having to protect her, and though he tries to comfort her, she wants to protect him for once. So when Ayako is released from the hospital, Aine is waiting for her and asks her to stop hurting Sakuya. Ayako ignores her, but Aine stubbornly waits outside of her apartment after getting down on her knees and begging Ayako again. Its raining, though, and Aine gets sick from being in the rain. Sakuya arrives just in time to catch her as she faints. When she wakes up, she's back at Sakuya's and he tells her that he protects her because he has to, its in his instincts and that he will always protect her from everything because he loves her. To punish Ayako, he refuses to go on any show or do any interviews on any networks that she is on. Ayako tells him he'll get seen as a prima Dona, but Sakuya correctly guesses that the media will pick him over her, and Ayako's engagements start getting cancelled. He agrees to finish the show, but tells her that her career is over. Watching the heated argument between Sakuya and Ayako, Aine tries to stop Sakuya from ruining Ayako's career because its all she has. Ayako bitches that she doesn't need Aine's sympathy. Sakuya finally asks Aine what she wants him to do, and Ayako bitches that Aine is a fine actor. In a kick ass moment, Aine tells her "It's over, bitch" and says that at half Ayako's age she, Aine, is twice the woman Ayako will ever be. Go Aine!!! Ayako seems to have realized she has lost and leaves. Later, Sakuya cooks for Aine while he nurses her over her illness. He even gets off on how she breathes while sick. As she sleeps, he has to keep himself from taking her again. Boy he has an appetite!
In a press conference, Ayako manages to say she and Sakuya are done in such a way they both come out looking good. Before Sakuya's performance on a music show, Aine runs into a guy who grabs her and holds her close calling her Yumi. Sakuya looks on pissed. When Aine finally pushes the guy away and tells him he has mistaken her for someone else, Sakuya grabs her and asks if she is okay, calling her Little Bird. The stranger apologizes and says Aine looks like his sister who died a year ago, and it messed him up for a moment. Following Lucifer's usual awesome performance, a new group hits the stage and they are touted as the group that may topple Lucifer after having soared to number two. Appropriately enough, their name is Jesus.
As they perform, Aine recognizes the song as one she likes, and then realizes the lead singer is the stranger from earlier and that now he is singing to Aine! Shortly afterwards, Sakuya announces he has to go to Kyushu for the start of their tour, and he'll only be able to see Aine between gigs. For this first stop, he'll be gone for a week. He asks her to promise not to replace him while he is gone, then asks her to take a bath with him. Aine gets embarrassed during the bath, which only turns him on and he ends up taking her in the bath, then says he's going to fuck her a week's worth.
On the way to work the next day, Aine is sore and says she'll probably feel it for the week he is gone. She runs into the leader of Jesus again, and he begs her to pretend to be his dead sister for his mom because she hasn't accepted that Yumi has died. Aine eventually agrees and it seems to make his mother happy. Afterwards, he asks if she wants to see some rare video of Lucifer from their early years. The temptation to see Sakuya from his "early" years is to much to resist and Aine agrees. When she thanks the boy, who we learn is named Tomoyuki, though, he is reminded of his sister then locks the door of the room they are in. Meanwhile, Sakuya is bothered by Jesus' song "Requiem" being about his lover dying and after reading the lyrics more carefully, he gets worried. Tomoyuki advances on Aine and tells her that he loved his sister with all his heart and that in Aine he has gotten his sister back, only now its okay to love her. He pounces on Aine and tries to rape him, but she's eventually able to fight him off after his mother hears the shouting and asks what is going on. When she gets home, though, she discovers he has left a hickey on her neck. She prays it fades before Sakuya gets back. No such luck, though, as Sakuya shows up in full Lucifer gear at school. When Aine instinctively grabs the spot with the hickey, he opens the top of her shirt in front of the whole class and sees it, then drags her out of class. He's pissed and drags her back to his place where he throws her on the bed, and asks if that guy gave it to her. He holds her down while asking what they did, and rips her shirt, before rolling her over and shoving her skirt up and her panties down. Aine begs him to stop and the fear in her voice finally gets him to get off of her before goes too far. He goes and takes a cold shower while Aine lays crying on the bed thinking he must hate her now. He apologizes for treating her like that and explains that he put together the guy's real feelings for his sister. He says lost it when he saw the mark and starts to leave, but Aine grabs him and tells him its not what he thinks. She explains and begs him to believe she didn't sleep with that guy. Sakuya says he does and holds her.
Getting ready to shoot a request show, Sakuya decides to change one of the songs. Then he spots Tomoyuki who asks what is going on with him and Aine. Sakuya taunts him to figure it out, since he's so clever. Instead of opening the show with "Fake", as planned, Sakuya opens with "Birdsong". Aine realizes its Sakuya's way of saying they are okay with each other again. Tomoyuki remembers that Sakuya called her "little bird" earlier and figures it out. Afterwards, Tomoyuki talks with Sakuya again who tells him that he is going to let what Tomoyuki did to Aine pass so they can move on, but warns him not to push it. Idiot Tomoyuki grabs Aine and says she is his sister and God gave her back to him and he won't let Sakuya have her. They end up having a fist (and foot) fight on set, and all of Lucifer and Jesus ends up getting in a few licks as both bands jump in for their singers. Later, the rest of Jesus asks Tomoyuki if he's nuts for sleeping with Sakuya's girl, and Tomoyuki says he hasn't, yet. The band reminds him that they don't have time for this, but he says he doesn't want to waste his second chance. Can we say psycho?? To prove my point, Aine gets to school and everyone believes that she is Tomoyuki's sister now. Then she discovers that he has transferred to her school! As she runs to ask him what the hell he is doing there, she nearly gets beaned by a soccer ball, but Sakuya blocks it. Then he gives Tomoyuki a little tip, while calling him a freak...namely always be around to protect your lady. He takes Aine inside, and tells her has to go back to work, but he is picking her up from school. Aine realizes he is worried about her and thinks its sweet. She goes to see Tomoyuki later during the school day on the roof, though, because she wants things set straight so Sakuya doesn't feel he has to keep protecting her from him. She finds him crying, though, and it melts her anger. He tells her that he always things of Yumi when he writes, and that Yumi wanted him to be a singer. He'd decided he'd confess his real feelings, no matter the consequences, when he debuted. But she died the same day he was signed on with his record company. Still on his knees, he hugs Aine and asks where his feelings should go and how is he supposed to live with her, calling her Yumi again. Aine finds herself crying for him as the volume comes to a close.
Something tells me Sakuya isn't going to like that. The next volume says Aine will have to choose between them, but I can't really see Aine falling for Tomoyuki. Feeling sorry for him, maybe, but he isn't exactly sane IMHO. Still, I have a feeling he will manage to cause some problems between the two. The question is, how will the deal with him...especially if he attacks Aine again. Never trust a psycho!
Volume 5
While Aine is feeling sorry for him, Tomoyuki attempts to kiss her and gets rejected. When Sakuya picks her up from school, he suggests she go home for a change, saying her parents must be wondering. Aine reluctantly agrees after noting her parents don't seem to care. When she gets home, her words seem true. They tell her "welcome stranger" and hadn't saved her any dinner since she is rarely home. Her parents have never listened to any of her songs, though they know she writes them. It seems pretty obvious that Aine doesn't feel at home there, and she finally tells her parents she is heading back out. As she leaves, she wonders if she should go to Sakuya's or if maybe he wanted some time alone. When she gets outside, though, she finds him there leaning against his car. He tells her they might as well stop pretending and takes her back inside where he introduces himself to her parents, then gives them a card and says that its where they can find Aine if they need her. He promises to provide for her financially and to take good care of her, but that she belongs with him. Her parents are actually shocked and call after Aine, but she follows Sakuya, still reeling herself. She gets over it quickly, though, and is happy as Sakuya tells her that his home is now hers and they are beginning their life together now.
Alas, Tomoyuki can't let them be happy. While at the studio, he runs into a hypnotist, who he uses on Aine while she is in the hall returning from getting the guys drinks. When Sakuya comes looking for her, she doesn't know him and now believes she is Yumi, Tomoyuki's little sister. Sakuya demands to know what Tomoyuki did, but he only laughs. Sakuya goes for him, but Aine stops him, beginning him not to hurt her brother. Tomoyuki and she leave together. Sakuya quickly figures out he must have used the hypnotist that had been on another show that day, but the hypnotist is claiming doctor-patient privilege and refuses to reverse the hypnotism. Sakuya decides to play Tomoyuki's game his way then. That night, Aine sleeps at Tomoyuki and he gets a "good night kiss" out of her as her brother. Bastard. In the morning, she awakes to find Sakuya sitting on a branch of a tree near her window and tapping on her window. He tells her she doesn't know him, but that's okay because now they can fall in love all over again. Aine may not remember him, but her body does and it doesn't take much for him to seduce her out of the room and back to his place. He starts making love to her, then tells her that he'll stop if she wants. Unable to refuse her body's desire, of course, she begs him not to stop. Tomoyuki arrives then, though, and demands to know what Sakuya is doing to "his sister." Sakuya laughs and tells him to ask Aine if she wants to leave with him. Tomoyuki tries to get her to go, but after wavering a moment, Aine tells him she is sorry, but she knows she belongs there. Tomoyuki eventually leaves and Sakuya finishes their love making. When Lucifer finishes filming a show the next day, Sakuya comes out to find that Aine has gone for a walk alone. He goes looking for her. She is trying to remember, and finally remembers something when Sakuya finds her. She is so excited, she runs across the road to him into the path of an oncoming car. Sakuya pushes her out of the way and gets hit instead!
Looking at Sakuya lying lifeless in the road, Aine's memories are finally unlocked and the hypnotism broken. Aine screams Sakuya's name over and over, but he doesn't move. He's rushed into surgery at the hospital, while a frantic Aine screams his name in the hall. The rest of Lucifer try to keep her calm, while trying to control their own emotions. Fans all over pray for him and the media surrounds the hospital, of course. Sakuya dies on the table and his soul remembers how badly his mother treated him and how much she hated him for being the son of her rapist. She even told someone that his father was paying her to keep him. Then he sees his mother in front of him, and he thinks he should have died and is willing to stay with her to make up for "ruining her life." Then he hears Aine crying and he runs towards the sound. He apologizes to his mother's spirit and says he has to stay with Aine, because he promised to never leave her and she taught him what love is. Back in the hospital, Sakuya's pulse returns at last and the doctor goes out to let the band and Aine know he'll be okay. Aine collapses in relief. When she finally gets to see him, its a beautiful scene. She still can't believe he was willing to die for her, and its only solidified her love for him even more. Determined to take care of him, Aine goes to see him regularly. Tomoyuki goes to see him as well, and tries to strangle him, but Sakuya asks if he really wants Aine to feel the same pain he felt when he lost Yumi? Tomoyuki finally comes to his senses and cries over Yumi. As he is leaving, Aine sees him and runs past him while he apologizes to her for trying to replace Yumi and tells her that he hopes she never understands what drove him to do it. She asks him to write a love song with a happy ending, and to keep singing it until he can believe in it himself. She's so sweet and forgiving.
Unfortunately, the media knows Sakuya was in the accident because he was saving a girl and the stories soon hit all the tabloids and the news. Sakuya's manager suggests Aine not visit Sakuya for awhile, and eventually manages to convince her. Sakuya doesn't like the idea at all, though, and says it won't take long for someone to put two and two together, and when they do they will blame Aine for the accident and go after her. He demands his manager call a press conference. At school, Sakuya's prediction has come true and the students are already speculating that Aine is the girl, and the reporters are buzzing. One slaps her and tells her she wishes Aine had died instead. The press conference comes on air right then, and all the students pause to watch. Sakuya tells the press that yes, the rumors are true and he was hit saving the one he loves. He tells them he'd do it again in a heart beat, because he loves her so much. Then he begs his fans not to blame her and to please leave his girl alone, bowing his head to them. Aine is deeply moved, knowing how very hard it had to have been for Sakuya to beg for anything, and she runs to the hospital. She finds him barely able to stand from pretending to be better than he was, and demands to know why he did it, saying she could have taken it, but he said he had to protect her and reminds her he always will. Awww!!!
Another great volume of this hot series. I was glad to finally see those two decide to make their living together official. Tomoyuki's desperate attempt to get Aine made for a nice dramatic twist, and I could definitely see Aine's body and heart remembering Sakuya when her mind couldn't. Hell, he plays her body like a virtuoso on a violin. I wish someone would play mine like that. Tomoyuki's sanity finally returning was good as well. Anyone else notice that so far, distractions don't last long. One annoyance, though, was the description on the back was misleading in saying that Aine was considering a dalliance with Tomoyuki and found herself having to choose between them after Sakuya was in an accident. She was hypnotized and had no choice...and even then she wanted only Sakuya. She also made that "choice" before the accident. Ah well...this catches me up with the current releases, so now I'll have to wait until April to get the next volume.
